Quantum parameter space and double scaling limits in N = 1 super Yang-Mills theory
We study the physics of N = 1 super Yang-Mills theory with gauge group U(N) and one adjoint Higgs field, by using the recently derived exact effective superpotentials. Interesting phenomena occur for some special values of the Higgs potential couplings. We find critical points with massless glueballs and/or massless monopoles, confinement without a mass gap, and tensionless domain walls. We des...
متن کاملQuantum Yang–mills Theory
Since the early part of the 20th century, it has been understood that the description of nature at the subatomic scale requires quantum mechanics. In quantum mechanics, the position and velocity of a particle are noncommuting operators acting on a Hilbert space, and classical notions such as “the trajectory of a particle” do not apply. But quantum mechanics of particles is not the whole story. ...
متن کاملQuantum parameter space in super Yang-Mills, II
In [1] (hep-th/0211069), the author has discussed the quantum parameter space of the N = 1 super Yang-Mills theory with one adjoint Higgs field Φ, tree-level superpotential Wtree = mΦ /2 + gΦ/3, and gauge group U(N). In particular, full details were worked out for U(2) and U(3). By discussing higher rank gauge groups like U(4), for which the classical parameter space has a large number of disco...
متن کاملQuantum Criticality and Yang-Mills Gauge Theory
We present a family of nonrelativistic Yang-Mills gauge theories in D+1 dimensions whose free-field limit exhibits quantum critical behavior with gapless excitations and dynamical critical exponent z = 2. The ground state wavefunction is intimately related to the partition function of relativistic Yang-Mills in D dimensions. The gauge couplings exhibit logarithmic scaling and asymptotic freedom...
متن کاملImproved actions and asymptotic scaling in lattice Yang-Mills theory
Improved actions in SU(2) and SU(3) lattice gauge theories are investigated with an emphasis on asymptotic scaling. A new scheme for tadpole improvement is proposed. The standard but heuristic tadpole improvement emerges from a mean field approximation from the new approach. Scaling is investigated by means of the large distance static quark potential. Both, the generic and the new tadpole sche...
